Quick trunk update

Little to report, but I wanted to post something!
With the rear axle dropped and the trunk repair still midway done I decided to continue to work on that. I dropped the rear valence and started to clean it up so that I could salvage it. The top lip required all the rusty layers of trunk … Read more

diving in. or “Junk in the trunk”

Lots on my plate this month as I prepare to move my shop to a new location, so I’ll keep this post brief and more in the style of a photo narrative.
The Giulietta has been disassembled on the lift for over 2 months now. With the impending shop move, It’s high time this car was … Read more

chaos theory…

One of my favorite subjects in college was Newtonian mechanics. It seemed so neat and tidy, and such a good explanation of how and why things happen the way they do. I remember being so totally enthralled learning the “rules” of the natural world, ruminating on Causality the natural world, and how clever and exciting … Read more

Dominance versus assertiveness..

Many things have been happening in my life over the last few days. Primarily, I adopted a dog, a rescue Jack Russel Terrier. We’ve been calling him “buddy” and teaching him tricks and learning about his breed.  One of the things I’m learning about this breed, is the difference between the dog traits: dominance and … Read more

Stuck Drums..

May 18th, 2010

The spider Right front drum, and left rear, are hopelessly stuck. Frustratingly enough they both spin, but I believe they are hanging up either via the wheel bearing on the spindle or via small annular grooves on the shoes. The front left shoe was deeply scored, so that might make sense.
Anyhow, after a few days … Read more

33 days on the clock.. 5lbs less dirt under the car

This week has been the dirtiest week of the bunch, This is the week that the front suspension came out, the wheel wells got scraped and scrubbed, the suspension came apart and  was cleaned and inspected.
In tandem the shop got re-arrainged, new pallet racks installed, while this may seem like a diversion, it has been … Read more

40 days and counting

So far I have spent every spare minute at the shop fretting over the task at hand.. there is plenty to be done for sure,  here is the synopsis for today.
Meta-Labor:

assembled the shopping list (for the stuff that centerline carries anyhow)

deposited my monthly paycheck (the most important part of most projects)

Labor-Labor:
Removed the pedal-box,  Dan … Read more

44 Days to the Motherlode!

Giulietta gets the motherlode overhaul
I have been sitting on the Giulietta for many months now, having sourced a nice engine, and done a pocketbook restoration of the gearbox. All that was left to do was all of the dirty work that I would really feel shameful if someone else did. Where’s the fun in that?
Well … Read more

In Oakland it’s all about the rims…

A while back I went ahead and took advantage of a sale that Aaron alerted me to. Vredenstien tires, which are all skinny and classic looking on these cars.  on sale for $60/piece available in the ultra tall and skinny  155R15.  I hopped on it and decided to replace the crusty tires on the giulietta … Read more

Giulietta gets a powertrain

Getting the Giulietta without a motor made for some tough decisions.. what to fill the void? I had, at the time a modern designed Alfa 2 liter Twinspark that I thought would have been fun to wedge in.. 175 HP in this frame all gutted and light weight spoke to me..
Still,  the reality of the … Read more
